ESG Reports

What is an ESG Report?

An ESG report, called also a sustainability report, is a document that presents information about an enterprise’s performance in three areas, namely environmental, societal and corporate governance. The goal of an ESG report is to provide key stakeholder - such as investors, customers, employees or local communities - with information on the enterprise’s impact on the environment and how it manages its operations and risks, including those related to the natural environment.

In the case of large enterprises, the ESG report is, in a way, an extension of non-financial reports drawn up in Poland since 2017 as the consequence of the EU NFRD Directive, in 2022 replaced by the CSRD, expanding the list of entities obligated to report and introducing more detailed requirements.

The contents of an ESG report

The team responsible for preparing an ESG report faces a considerable challenge of combining information from different departments of one organisation into a single document. Therefore they need to analyse and include data related to the Double Materiality Principle, which involves analysing ESG risks from the perspective of the materiality of the enterprise’s environmental and societal impact, the materiality of the impact of sustainability issues on the enterprise’s financial performance, or both. Another issue to be analysed is the sustainability approach to environmental impacts along the entire value chain, the description of the enterprise’s business model, policies and action plans and its strategy in the context of material sustainability impacts, opportunities and risks, or the disclosure of indicators and targets in relation to the enterprise’s sustainability areas as defined by the European Sustainability Reporting Standards, both on environmental issues and those related to other ESG elements.

Why are ESG reports so important?

Being one of the key sources of information for stakeholders, an ESG report is an ample portion of information on sustainability. It presents a complete picture of the enterprise’s activities, including the conservancy issues. Moreover, ESG reports are a tool for identifying impacts, opportunities and risks in the long, medium and short term. ESG reports enhance credibility and transparency, also in the area of environmental protection, and allow for diminishing investment risks. Drawing up an ESG report requires specialised and extensive knowledge in various fields, as well as active cooperation within the various departments of an organisation.

We offer full assistance with your ESG reporting process related to the conservancy issues, as we focus on the needs of companies that will be subject to reporting requirements since 2026.
